Viewing the past through the long lens of time is not and will never be an exact science, rather it is a careful synthesis of scientific principles and artistic skill to create as accurately as possible, a representation of how an animal, culture or environment may have looked at a given time in prehistory. Trained in archaeological illustration, I commenced my career in 1986, specializing in palaeontological illustration in the early 1990s.
I employ a traditional stippled ink drawing technique to accurately render archaeological artefacts. My artworks are produced manually with either ink, graphite, coloured pencil or acrylic paint, however I occasionally use digital techniques to enhance the finished images.
What follows is a sample of artworks produced over a thirty year period. In 2001, with the endorsement of palaeontologists in Australia and the United Kingdom, I had the immense good fortune to be awarded a “distinguished talent” visa and subsequently citizenship to Australia, “For the perceived value of my skills to that nation.”
Currently I reside in Scotland where, as a member of PalAlba (Palaeontological Scotland) I work alongside palaeontologists and geologists dedicated to promoting and preserving Scotland's unique fossil heritage.
My work has appeared in books, magazines, posters, exhibitions and on television, in The United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, Oceania and North America.
If you have an interest in commissioning new artworks, please contact me. I would be happy to discuss any requirements you may have.
